County Manager

The Wilkes County Manager's Office is responsible for implementing policies established by the Board of County Commissioners. The County Manager and County Clerk serves at the pleasure of the Board of County Commissioners. John Yates assumed the position as the Wilkes County Manager on October 1, 2008. Sarah Call serves as the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners and has been employed with Wilkes County Government since February 2015.

Duties

The County Manager is the chief administrative Official of County Government. The County Manager serves as budget officer and directs the administration of offices, departments, boards, commissions and agencies under the general control of the Commissioners, subject to the general direction and control of the Board. His duties include preparing the recommended budget for all County departments, recommending new and revised policies and programs to the Board of County Commissioners, and implementing County programs and services in an efficient and effective manner.

The Clerk to the Board serves as the corporate secretary to the Board and maintains the county seal for the purpose of certifying all official documents on the behalf of the County. Primary duties include attending all meetings of the Board, including public hearings; transcribing full and accurate minutes of each meeting; and preparing agendas for the meetings.
