[ARCHIVED] Town of Wilkesboro and West Wilkes Water Association Non-Regulatory System Pressure Advisory

Late this evening, the Town of Wilkesboro and the West Wilkes Water Association issued a system pressure advisory this evening to a portion of their distribution system affecting customers. Repairs are in progress to fix a leak on the Wilkesboro water main (6 inch) supplying the West Wilkes Water Association (5:30 PM, 1-9-2024).

The water consumers of West Wilkes Water Association and Town of Wilkesboro, in Wilkes County are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to a leak in water main line.   Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore, when water service is restored consumers are advised to boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Boiling water concentrates any levels of nitrates that may be present in the water. Infants below the age of six months and pregnant women should use an alternate water supply (e.g., bottled water) whenever possible.

Water customers are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible.  This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued.
