SOLID WASTE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER / GRADE 61 – Wilkes County is seeking applicants for the position of Solid Waste Enforcement Officer at the Wilkes County Landfill. An employee in this class performs investigative and enforcement work in the Solid Waste Department. Employee is responsible for enforcement of solid waste ordinances of the County to protect the environment. Work involves investigating illegal dumping, handling complaints including making home and site visits, writing up documentation, taking pictures, and initiating enforcement. Work also includes performing manual roadside clean-up. Work involves completing and maintaining records and reports on activities and generating compliance correspondence. Employee may be involved in giving testimony in court cases. Work involves extensive public contact providing information and resolving problems. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Work is performed under general supervision of the Solid Waste Management Director and is reviewed by observation, reports and feedback from the public. Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in science field providing coursework related to the environmental issues of law enforcement and some professional experience that demonstrates analytical, reporting and judgment capabilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
