A sexually transmitted disease (STD), also known as sexually transmitted infection (STI) or venereal disease (VD), is a disease passed from person to person through sexual contact.

Screening

Wilkes County Health Department offers screening for sexually transmitted diseases during regular office hours. If you would like to be screened or are having symptoms, an appointment can be scheduled by calling 336-651-7450. All services are confidential regardless of age.

Cost

All local health departments will offer HIV and STD services at no cost to the client regardless of county of residence. Exceptions include:
  • Clients who request screening for certain non-reportable STDs
  • Clients who receive follow-up treatment of warts after the diagnosis is established
  • Clients who request testing not offered by the state
