How to Obtain a Permit

Modular Home Permits

  1. Obtain a Watershed / Zoning permit and a Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance Application from the Planning Department phone # 336-651-7563 or 336-651-7582. If you are in the Town Jurisdiction or 1 mile ETJ you will need to contact the Town of Wilkesboro at 336-838-3951 or Town of North Wilkesboro at 336-667-7129.
  2. Obtain a septic/well permit from the Environmental Health Office. Phone # 336-651-7530. If you plan to be on public water or public sewer we will need a letter from that jurisdiction. Contact Town of Wilkesboro at 336-838-3951 or Town of North Wilkesboro at 336-667-7129 or Water Association.
  3. Appoint Lien Agent (see Lien Agent Law) – if the project cost is $30,000 or more www.liensnc.com cost of Lien Agent $25.00 1-2 family, $50.00 all other projects. You will need a valid credit card to go through this process.
  4. Need sealed blueprints containing:
    • Third party seal and model number
    • Foundation plan
    • Bolt together plan
    • Floor plan
  5. A permit can be issued to: the owner, a licensed general contractor, or a set-up contractor with a $5,000 surety bond
  6. Bring all of this information between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. to obtain a building permit

  • Commercial Permits

    1. Obtain a Watershed/Zoning permit and Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance permit from the Planning Department phone # 336-651-7563 or 336-651-7582. If you are in the Town Jurisdiction or 1 mile ETJ of the town you will need to contact the Town of Wilkesboro at 336-838-3951 or Town of North Wilkesboro at 336-667-7129.
    2. Obtain a septic permit & well permit from the Environmental Health Office. Phone # 336-651-7530. If you plan to be on public water or public sewer we will need letter from that jurisdiction. Contact Town of Wilkesboro or Town of North Wilkesboro or Water Association.
    3. Appoint Lien Agent (see Lien Agent Law) if project cost is $30,000 or more www.liensnc.com, cost $50.00. For more information contact 1-888-690-7384. You will need a valid credit card to go through this process.
    4. Submit plan for plan review - all structures over 2500 square feet and $90,000 will require full set of engineer plans and drawings, (will need contact name, phone number, e-mail address) along with watershed, zoning permit, septic/well permit & lien agent form to:

    5. After the plans have been reviewed you can obtain building permit 8:30 am – 9:30 am (excluding holidays).

  • Manufactured Home Permit

    1. Obtain a Watershed/Zoning permit and a Flood Damage Prevention Application from the Planning Department phone # 336-651-7563 or 336-651-7582. If you are in the Town Jurisdiction or 1 mile ETJ you will need to contact the Town of Wilkesboro at 336-838-3951 or Town of North Wilkesboro at 336-667-7129. This office will be where you will need to prove the age of the manufactured home. Homes older than Jun 15, 1976 cannot be brought into Wilkes County. If the home has been in the county since November 1, 1999 and you have proof that it has been in the county, it should be okay. Check with Planning Department for any questions or concerns about the year model of your manufactured home.
    2. Obtain septic/well permit from Environmental Health Office. Phone # 336-651-7530
    3. Appoint Lien Agent (see Lien Agent Law) – mobile home site prep is more than $30,000 www.liensnc.com cost of lien agent $25.00 1-2 family, $50.00 all other projects. You will need a valid credit card to go through this process. Any questions call 1-888-690-7384).

  • Residential Building Permit

    1. Obtain a Watershed/Zoning permit and Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance permit from the Planning Department phone # 336-651-7563 or 336-651-7582. If you are in the Town Jurisdiction or 1 mile ETJ of the town you will need to contact the Town of Wilkesboro at 336-838-3951 or Town of North Wilkesboro at 336-667-7129.
    2. Obtain a septic & well permit from the Environmental Health Office phone #336-651-7530. If you plan to be on public water or public sewer we will need a letter from that jurisdiction. Contact Town of Wilkesboro or Town of North Wilkesboro or Water Association.
    3. Appoint Lien Agent (see Lien Agent Law) – (if project cost is $30,000 or more www.liensnc.com cost $25.00 1-2 family, $50.00 all other projects). For more information contact 1-888-690-7384. You will need a valid credit card to go through this process.
    4. A minimum of a hand drawn scale floor plan and cut section will be required.
    5. Bring all of this information between the hours of 8:30 am – 9:30 am to obtain building permit (excluding holidays)

  • Sign Permit

    1. Obtain Watershed/Zoning Permit and Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance from the Planning Department phone # 336-651-7563 or 336-651-7582. If you are in the Town jurisdiction or 1 mile ETJ you will need to contact the Town of Wilkesboro at 336-838-3951 or Town of North Wilkesboro at 336-667-7129.
    2. Appoint Lien Agent (see Lien Agent Law) – if project cost is $30,000 or more. www.liensnc.com of Lien Agent $50.00). You will need a valid credit card to go through this process.
    3. Submit plan for plan review (will need contact name, phone number, e-mail address) along with watershed/zoning permit & lien agent form to:

  • Cell Tower

    How to Schedule Inspection

    To schedule an inspection call 336-651-7303 between 8:30 am – 5:00 pm the business day before. Please have your permit number ready when calling.

    NO SAME DAY INSPECTIONS
