Immunizations
Wilkes County Health Department (WCHD) offers vaccinations for infants and children through age 18. Immunizations required for routine infant vaccination, daycare or school attendance, work or foreign travel are available. WCHD follows vaccination guidelines (en Espanol) recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices (ACIP) and North Carolina's Immunization Laws and Rules. Some insurance plans will pay for the cost of immunizations for children ages 0 to 18. If a child has Medicaid, uninsured, underinsured (insurance does not cover immunizations), American Indian, or Alaskan Native they are eligible for free vaccine through the state VFC Program.

- DTaP (for Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis)
- Hepatitis B
- Hib (for Haemophilus influenza type b)
- Influenza (for Flu)
- IPV (for Polio)
- MMR (for Measles, Mumps and Rubella)
- PCV13 ["Prevnar"] (for Streptococcus pneumoniae)
- Varicella (for Chickenpox)
